The 120-year-old Arya Vaidya Sala, Kottakkal (AVS) offers authentic Ayurvedic treatment, drawing people from across the world. Established in 1902 by the visionary physician and philanthropist, the late Vaidyaratnam P.S. Warrier, it was started as a village clinic. Over the years, it grew into a multi-unit, multi-disciplinary, multi-functional organisation, operating in various streams of Ayurveda. With hospitals in Kottakkal, Delhi and Kochi, AVS also has 26 branches or clinics across India. Panchakarma and other specialty treatments which are effective for various debilitating ailments are administered under the supervision of expert Ayurvedic physicians.
A charitable hospital located at Kottakkal, it provides Ayurvedic and allopathic treatments, medicines, accommodation and food free of cost for those from economically challenged backgrounds. Clinical research activities are also undertaken at the charitable hospital, focusing on cancer and validating new drug development. It also runs a Kathakali Academy where the classical art form is taught and performed.
