The sanctuary, spread over a cluster of islands, is home to 60 migratory and more than a hundred native birds. Wildlife enthusiasts and bird lovers visit the place located 200m above sea level. Originating from the Western Ghats, passing through Silent Valley National Park, Kozhikode and Malappuram, the time between December and April is perfect to visit Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary.

It is a haven for native and migratory birds such as gulls, terns, sandpipers, cormorants and herons. Malabar hornbills, kingfishers, darters, woodpeckers, Brahminy kites and whimbrels are sighted here. Mussels, crabs and fish can be seen in the tranquil waters of the Kadalundi river. It is home to several species of snakes, turtles and crocodiles. The forest department organises boat rides for visitors, allowing a peek into their world.
