The waterfall is situated in the buffer zone of Silent Valley National Park and is 6km away from a small village called Karuvarakundu. The water falls, located 1500ft above sea level, makes its way into a large pool below. It is a great attraction among those who enjoy a swim. Except during heavy rains, the water remains clear. The water that originates from the West Ghats is icy cold. The surrounding forest, the unpolluted environment and the small waterfalls on the way add to the charm of the locale.
One can get here by road from Malappuram and Shornur. The falls are also known by the names Kalkundu waterfall and Karuvarakundu waterfalls. The best way to reach the waterfall is to hire a jeep to Karuvarakundu. One can trek through the dense greenery to reach the Keralamkundu waterfalls. It is generally advised to avoid visiting the waterfalls during the monsoon season (June to September) as the water flow increases, making the rocks slippery and the area accident-prone. The best period to visit the waterfalls is between October and May.
