The Nedumkayam rainforest is a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. The fresh air and clean water give you a renewed sense of being. Around 15km from Nilambur, the rainforest is home to rare species of flora and fauna. A three-hour trek will take you to Manakadavu waterfalls. It is located 18km from Nilambur. The forest area is also home to the oldest teak plantation in the world, the history of which begins in the 1840s. It is spread across an area of 2.3 hectares. Bison, elephants, tigers, macaques, deer and wild cats roam the forests. There is also an elephant-taming camp. A wooden rest house built during the colonial times of the British is still in use, offering a panoramic view of the forest lands.
