Popularly known as Kondotty mosque, the 500-year-old Pazhayangadi mosque is one of the oldest in Kerala. It came to be called so in memory of Mohammed Shah, believed to be a true follower of Islam and fondly called “Kondotty Thangal” by natives. The mosque has been built using white marble in the traditional Mughal architectural style. The towering marble dome with engravings stands proud amidst the green hills. The annual week-long festival known as Kondotty Nercha or Valiya Nercha is held during February or March. Events include music concerts performed by popular artistes. The premises also draws vendors selling food, jewellery, toys, knick-knacks and household items.
